  2. This is a very strange problem.  A machine with the following specs was 
  3. built:

  5. P-120 cpu w/ cooler
  6. Intel Zappa mainboard
  7. 16MB EDO RAM
  8. * 1.2 Gig Western Digital EIDE harddrive *     +40
  9. 1.44mb Teac floppy
  10. 4x Toshiba CDROM
  11. 28.8 kbps Rockwell chipset internal fax/modem
  12. Diamond Stealth 64bit DRAM 1mb
  13. Midtower 
  14. KFC 15" SVGA .28dp ni monitor
  15. Golden SB16 card
  16. 101 keyboard
  17. * mouse *                    +10
  18. Windows95                    +90

  20. The modem cannot initialize a dialtone from my home phone (i tried 2 
  21. separate lines)
  22. But, at the computer vendors store the dial up modem connection works fine!

  25. We have replaced the modem 4 times - this is very wierd -- perhaps it has 
  26. something to do with dial tone?  
  27.  
  28. why would it work on one phone connection but not another?
  29.  
  30. Does anyone have a clue to what is going on?
